On each service, there will be a chief (usually a 3rd year
or 4th year).
Each Friday, the student is expected to submit their
evaluation to their respective chief.
The chief will discuss the student's performance with other
physicians on the team and
include their feedback on the evaluations. The chief will
return the completed
evaluation to Ms. Groote.
The student is NOT to give the evaluation to the intern
that he worked with or
to anyone else other than the chief barring special
accomodations made due to
vacation or schedules.
If the student fails to submit an evaluation on Friday, he
is given one warning
and should then immediately complete this task.
A second such failure will result in a lower score for
professionalism for that week.
A third failure will result in a failing grade for
professionalism for the entire course
which should be expected. What kind of person would forget
something like this
three times? How could we trust such a person with the care
of another human being?
At the end of the rotation, the faculty are also asked to
evaluate any student they have
had a chance to work with. Once these evaluations are
collected, they are sent
to Galveston. The general gestalt is gathered from the
evaluations to generate a
percentile score.
Roughly, mostly 3s will garner 80-85%
A few 4s usually 90%
Mostly 4s 95%
Almost all 4s 100%
While this process may seem complex, it is in accordance
with Galveston policy.
