Faculty: the department faculty is made up of 13 Board-Certified Ob/Gyn specialists. Each carries a faculty appointment at UTMB. Dr. Charles Brown (our Department Chair and Program Director) is a Board-Certified sub-specialist in Maternal-Fetal Medicine. Please see the following link for more detailed information.
Dr. Shettigar has been the clerkship director in Austin since 2004. He went to medical school at New York Medical College, which has a similar structure to Galveston in that he spent his preclinical years in Valhalla, and his 3rd and 4th year in Manhattan. He did his residency training in Parkland.
Our department initiated a new residency program July 2005. Our first class of residents graduated in 2009.  Further information regarding this program may be found at the following link.
The department runs a fellowship program for physicians who have completed a residency in Family Practice and wish to obtain advanced experience in Obstetrics. This fellowship is one year in length. They will serve as direct supervisors of the students on L&D rotations and in general are a valuable resource for information.
Nurse Practitioners primarily work in triage of L&D patients. Depending on how busy L&D is, you may initially share the Triage evaluation of a patient with an NP. Some of our NPs are also Certified Nurse Midwives and may proctor you for exams/deliveries.
Joy Kimmell and Nicole Groote are the administrative personnel who run the department. One of them is in the department office (324-7036) from 07:45 to 16:30 each weekday.

Candice Tisdale: Candice (324-7860) is the Student Coordinator and handles many of the logistic issues related to your rotation in Austin.
